China Federation of Industrial Economics (CFIE), a national social economic organization, was established in 1988 upon approval by the State Council and registration at the Ministry of Civil Affairs. 

In 2011, the 5th CFIE Executive Council witnessed the election of Mr. LI Yizhong, standing member of the 11th National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Vice Chairman of Economic Committee of the 11th National Committee, CPPCC, and former Minister of Industry and Information Technology, as CFIE’s new Chairman. Madam GU Xiulian, Vice Chairwoman of the 10th National Committee of NPC, and Prof. XU Kuangdi, Vice Chairman of the 10th National Committee of CPPCC and Honorary President of the 6th Presidium of Chinese Academy of Engineering, sit as CFIE's Honorary Chairpersons. Currently, CFIE has 87 consultants, 222 directors, 76 members of the Presidium, 413 members (individuals and organizations).

As a federation of industrial associations, CFIE has 178 national industrial association members covering an extensive range of industrial sectors including iron & steel, textile, light industry, machinery, electronics, petrochemical, electricity, building materials, aviation and aerospace, energy and transportation. CFIE builds its working network through coordination and cooperation with 25 local federations of industrial economics at the provincial and municipal level.

CFIE also engages itself in extensive and diverse forms of close cooperation with renowned international organizations including World Intellectual Property Organization(WIPO), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), United Nations Global Compact(UNGC), U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Business Europe, Federation of German industries (BDI), Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of British Industries(CBI), Netherlands Council for Trade Promotion(NCH), All-Russia Public Organization (“Business Russia”), Turkish Industry & Business Association(TÜSİAD), Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan(CICK), Japan Business Federation (Nihon Keidanren), Japan Association of Corporate Executives(KEIZAI DOYUKAI), Chinese General Chamber of Commerce(CGCC) and Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (Taiwan) (CNAIC).

Following the guiding principles of providing innovative services by accommodating to development trend, accurate self-positioning and transforming traditional functions, CFIE has set the strategic orientation of building a new type of think-tank, forging industrial synergy and strengthening international cooperation. With a comprehensive and dynamic working mechanism upon collaboration among 5 elements, namely think-tank, alliance, exhibitions, funds and industrial parks, CFIE is striving hard to build a first-class international organization.
